Are Nutrisystem Reviews Honest? September 24, 2009

I want to post the question here, “Are Nutrisystem reviews really honest?” The reason being that I’ve been looking into the various diet food delivery plans that are out there and one that regularly seems to come up in many online conversations in forums etc all the time is Nutrisystem. I did a little research and it’s clear this company has been around for a long time and has a long, well documented track record. So does it work and are all the reviews you see really telling you the whole story? Or are they just trying to sell you the product? Well, here is my take on whether this product is worthwhile trying or not.

Well, from what I can see and from what the bulk of people are saying, it seems it does work as long as you do things right. By that I mean sticking to the diet meals they provide and no cheating with fattening snacks in between and as long as you help yourself by doing some daily exercise and not just sitting on your lazy behind and expecting miracles to happen just because you spent some money.

Here’s why it works.

They provide you with ready prepared frozen meals for a 28 day period that are meant to replace your normal 3 meals a day. Now this in itself is potentially weight busting as most people who need to lose weight in the first place eat a really bad diet. If you can dump that bad diet and replace it with nutritious and low calorie meals, then you are heading in the right direction from the get go.

With your daily calorie intake drastically reduced in most cases with Nutrisystem meals, if you then add power to that by burning more calories by doing some exercise every day, then you must lose weight without exception.

Why it won’t work

It won’t work if you either don’t stick to the diet that you are paying for, or you cheat by eating high calorie snacks in between meals. It also may fail if you don’t do any exercise whatsoever. Exercise can be light such as walking for an hour a day,or doing some swimming or playing some light sports. In fact anything that will get you a little out of breath and sweating for over 30 minutes a day will help you burn more calories. That’s what works. Doing absolutely no exercise may cause your body to slow its metabolism so much that its not burning more calories than even the low calorie meals are providing, which means no weight loss.

So there’s some stuff to think about if you are thinking about trying this out. If you want more info like an unbiased review of it, you might want to check out this article here Nutrisystem Reviews 2009.

Quick weight loss tips come in several flavours, but I’m only going to concentrate on what is safe and natural in this post. Back in my last post “Weight Loss Diets”, I touched upon some diet information that is helpful when losing weight whilst keeping a healthy outlook and making sure you only lose weight steadily.

So what are these stunningly incredible methods of losing weight fast that don’t involve costly and potentially dangerous surgery or taking any pills or drugs of any kind?

Well, the natural way is best in my book, so here are a few natural ways to lose weight fast.

First of all, while I do not endorse any form of crash diet, or starvation diet as these are clearly dangerous and will not be successful in the long term, there is a form of short term quick weight loss diet that will help you to lose weight fast as long as you stick to it. It centre’s around a type of soup that you will need to eat every day for a week and if you can stick to this, you will lose a few pounds and that, in the natural order of things is pretty fast weight loss.

The soup consists of cabbage mainly, with turnip, onions, carrots, celery, parsnips, broccoli and tomatoes. You can add as much garlic, black pepper and fresh herbs as you like but be frugal with the salt. I personally have added several curry spices such as coriander, cumin, cardamom and fenugreek to give it a more tasty flavour and also chilies to spice it up. How you flavour it is up to you, but you can’t add any potatoes or meat or fish and no bread is allowed either. You can’t have any dairy produce or eggs and definitely no cakes, biscuits, chocolates or sweets.

You eat this twice a day in place of main meals, although yo can have a decent breakfast of cereal, oats, muesli etc with yoghurt or even dry wholemeal toast. You can eat as much fresh fruit with your breakfast and after eating the soup as you like, although avoid bananas. No fried foods!

This is fairly nutritious soup and it will fill you up although you must stop the diet and return to more wholesome food after a week or you risk suffering from malnutrition!

This soup is used for heart patients to get some weight off fast before being prep’d for heart surgery.

So there you have it – a really natural and fast way to lose a few pounds in a week, but do not continue it past a week. You can go back to normal food for a week or two then return to this diet for a few days at a time, but it’s not to be used as a regular diet. You have been warned!

Following my last post “Stretching for Weight Loss”, it seems you can’t turn a page in a glossy magazine nowadays without being bombarded by this or that great new diet that is guaranteed to help you to lose so much weight if you follow it to the letter.

Well, diet is of course vitally important to any weight loss procedure, but you shouldn’t rely solely on creating gaps in your nutrient intake just to shed a few pounds. It is common knowledge now that dieting alone is not a good long term weight loss strategy as you need to also work on improving your metabolism and body strength to take full advantage of the process.

That said, when the right exercise and diet are combined in any weight loss process, then a person is almost guaranteed to lose weight as long as they stick with it. But those weight loss oriented last words will ring on for a long time fading only gradually as with the best will in the world you may start out and be a real champion at it, but then something will invariably happen to knock you off balance and your routine becomes interrupted and then has to be put on hold.

If this happens, its not the end of the world. You can have a few day’s break from your routine and still get back to it without losing much headway. But its in times like this that following a good diet can see you through longer spells when you either cannot exercise or your routine cannot be resumed for a period of time.

At least your body will have built up a faster and more efficient metabolic rate through your earlier efforts with regular exercise so it will be used to burning off the calories that your take in with food. By keeping up a good diet through these times, you allow your body to continue its pattern of calorie consumption so you don’t start to gain weight.

But whatever happens, you must resume an exercise routine before too long or your muscles will begin to weaken as they’re not being used, causing an eventual slow down in metabolism and then the weight will begin to come back.

So there is the weight loss top tip of today. It might seem like common sense and you probably already knew that, but it always helps to read it again to refresh your mind that you know what it is you’re supposed to be doing! See you all again soon!
